Book Review: The Martian

Author: Andy Weir

Summary from Goodreads:
This the story of Mark Watney and his struggle to survive on Mars. A fast paced story that demands he be quick on his feet to solve all of the challenges he faces. The book is full of suspense and adventure.

I highly recommend this book.

Personal Review:
I loved this book! I even convinced my husband to read it. We actually first learned about it the movie trailer previews, but decided we should read the book first and then we would go see the movie.

I loved the plot of this book. While I am not an overly scientific person, I could make out the story and it made it feel more ‘real’ for me. The writer made me lol on many of the things that Mark’s character would say. I imagine Matt Damon will bring that to life nicely.

This would be a must read book for anyone who loves suspense and adventure.

Happy Reading!

Book Review: Sit, Stay, Speak!

Author: Annie England Noblin

Summary from Goodreads:
This is the story of Addie, who inherits a house from her aunt in the Delta of Arkansas. A transplant from Chicago, she has to learn to her new surroundings. Things get interesting when she finds a dog and that things aren’t quite what they seem.

Personal Review:
As a person who loves dogs and small towns, I thought that this would be the perfect book. I did enjoy it. The plot was one that kept the story moving and I could see the wide range of actions that elicit emotions throughout: loneliness, happiness, and romance.

In an effort to not post spoilers, I do want to caution the reader that there are a few passages that are hard to read in this book. They tend to deal with animal abuse and how the main character overcomes that. That said, it was hard for me to still to read some of those parts.

All in all, I would say it was interesting book.

Book Review: Hostage Taker

Author: Stefanie Pintoff

Summary from Goodreads:
This book was a thriller set around the St. Patrick’s Cathedral. This book is part of the collection related to Eve Rossi and her team. Will they be able to solve the mystery in time?

Disclaimer: I was awarded this book in a Goodreads giveaway. While I did not pay for the book, the opinions expressed in this book are strictly my own.

Personal Review:
This was an interesting book. I have to admit that this is probably not a book that I would have picked up on my own. I am glad that I did though! The book was fast paced crime novel. I enjoyed the characters and the plot.

In May when I was in NYC for Book Con, I actually toured the Cathedral, so it was interesting that this was the setting for this book. I think having been to the location before helped to make my imagination really take off.

Happy Reading!
