Waiting on Wednesday: The Boyfriend Project

Hi Everyone!

Just stopping by to let you know about a book I am waiting on.

Author: Farrah Rochon

Summary from Amazon:In this witty rom-com celebrating the "unique joys of strong female friendships," three young women bond when the live Tweeting of a disastrous date leads them to discover they've all been duped by the same man. (Jasmine Guillory, author of The Wedding Date)

Samiah Brooks never thought she would be "that" girl. But a live tweet of a horrific date just revealed the painful truth: she's been catfished by a three-timing jerk of a boyfriend. Suddenly Samiah-along with his two other "girlfriends," London and Taylor-have gone viral online. Now the three new besties are making a pact to spend the next six months investing in themselves. No men and no dating.

For once Samiah is putting herself first, and that includes finally developing the app she's always
dreamed of creating. Which is the exact moment she meets the deliciously sexy Daniel Collins at work. What are the chances? But is Daniel really boyfriend material or is he maybe just a little too good to be true?

"A smart, funny digital-age romance about real women living in the real world. Couldn't put it down!" --Abby Jimenez, USA Today bestselling author of The Happy Ever After Playlist

TTT: Reasons Why I Love Graphic Novels!

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are well. I popping by to participate in the TTT topic that is open-ended this week. I am choosing to write about graphic novels!

Reasons I love them...
1) The pictures!
2) The quippy language...
3) That you get the next volume and the story continues!
4) Introductions of new characters
5) That buying them allows me to support small businesses
6) They go by quickly!
7) It's always fun to do a re-read and see what you missed the first time.
8) It breaks down sometimes complex books in a new way.
9) It's great exposure to different people, heroes, etc.
10) They may be a gateway for pursing other reading!

Have you read any good graphic novels? What would you recommend?

Book Review: The Lion's Den

Author: Catherine St. John

Summary from Amazon: Sex, betrayal, and intrigue: A dream vacation on a luxurious yacht turns deadly in this pulse-pounding beach read "chock full of delicious characters who flaunt their sins . . . like the latest Birkin bag" (Adriana Trigiani).
Belle likes to think herself immune to the dizzying effects of fabulous wealth. But when her best friend, Summer, invites her on a glamorous getaway to the Mediterranean aboard her billionaire boyfriend's yacht, the only sensible answer is yes. Belle hopes the trip will be a much-needed break from her stalled acting career and uniquely humiliating waitressing job, but once she's aboard the luxurious Lion's Den, it soon becomes clear this jet-setting holiday is not as advertised.

Belle's dream vacation quickly devolves into a nightmare as she and the handful of other girls Summer invited are treated more like prisoners than guests by their controlling host-and in one terrifying moment, Belle comes to see Summer for who she truly is: a vicious gold digger who will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Belle realizes she's going to have to keep her wits about her -- and her own big secret closely hidden -- if she wants to make it off the yacht alive.

Personal Review:
Let me just start off by saying that I love the location of this book...such beauty.

The story was not at all what I expected, but I found that was interesting and it kept me entertained. I am thinking that it may play out better in a movie then a book, but it was still enjoyable.

Thanks for the opportunity!

Book Tag: Coffee Time!

Coffee...a free hug in a mug! I never really used to drink it and then I started and now I cannot stop. I saw this book tag circulating and decided to hop on in!

Black: Name a series that’s tough to get into, but has hardcore fans.
For me, that was the Hunger Games. It took me awhile to get past the idea
  that people are 'tributes.'

Peppermint Mocha: Name a book that gets more popular during the winter or a festive time of year.
Last year, was Let it, Snow! (Also on Netflix)

Hot Chocolate: What is your favorite children’s book?
No questions asked: Chicken Soup with Rice by Maurice Sendak.

Double Shot of Espresso: Name a book that kept you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I am fascinated by Newt's
     collection :)

Starbucks: Name a book you see everywhere.
Lately, that has been Becoming by Michele Obama.

That Hipster Coffee Shop: Give a book by an Indie author a shout-out.
Would love some good rec's here! :)

Oops! I Accidentally Got Decaf: Name a book you were expecting more from.
Another hard question...I think that writing a book is hard. I try to give            credit to those who take the time to do it.

The Perfect Blend: Name a book or series that has both bitter and sweet but is ultimately satisfying.
To All the Boys I Loved Before :)

Book Review: Rage Against the Minivan

Author: Kristen Howerton

Summary from Goodreads: Filled with her signature blend of humor, vulnerability, and insight, Rage Against the Minivan is the handbook Kristen Howerton wishes she'd had when she was a new mom. At its heart, it is about parents learning how to love better by letting themselves off the hook.

With her hard-earned knowledge gained from having four kids in four years, she navigates the emotional and sometimes messy waters of motherhood: the expectations, the anxiety, the total lack of control, and yes, the indignities of driving a minivan (which now sits in her driveway covered in crushed Cheerios and the remnants of her self-esteem).

Howerton shares her unexpected journey through motherhood, from infertility to adoption to divorce, and how she learned to quell her inner anxiety to do it all perfectly. As a mom of both white and black children, Howerton is an advocate for social justice, foster care reform, and helping fellow parents to step up to hard conversations about race with their kids. Her writing speaks to the thorny issues parents deal with every day while reminding them they are not alone on this unpredictable ride.

Rage Against the Minivan serves as a quiet resistance against the superficial obsessions of motherhood, from the kind of car we drive to looking like we've got it all together. Infused with heart and humor, it's a permission slip to allow yourself to be a "good-enough" parent.

Personal Review:First of all, I have to acknowledge that I am not a parent. However, that is not to say that I did not enjoy this book. I think that all of everything that goes into parenthood is complicated and parents deserve all of the good things for raising tiny humans in today's world.

I found the book to be full of moments of every emotion: happiness, stressed, being real. It is those qualities that made it worth the read.

For all of you parents-thank you!
