Bookish and Not So Bookish Thoughts: COVID-19

Thursday, March 26, 2020

Hi Everyone,

Thought I would pop in on this Thursday with some bookish and not bookish thoughts. The world around us is experiencing some uncertainty.

I hope that this finds you safe, healthy, and able to take care of yourselves.  In light of that, I thought I would share a few things that have helped me throughout this time and may be of interest.

1) Of course Books! There are lots of ways to get books to read.  My favorite is my local Overdrive Account from my library. I realize not everyone has access to a library thought so I thought I would share a few other sources for books- https://openlibrary.org/  and https://stories.audible.com/start-listen

2) Book related content-I have learned to love Elephant and Piggy from the eyes of my nieces. Each day at lunch Mo Williems has been doing a video doodle. Follow along on Youtube.

 https://www.youtube.com/user/TheKennedyCenter

3) Iheartradio.com. This is great for tunes, but also for Podcasts. Personally, I have found I really enjoy breaking it up with a good podcast. Let me know your favorites!

4) Carmen Sandiego content. First, I love this series. I love that they further made lessons related to the content. https://www.carmensandiego.com/resources/

5) Smithsonian Discovery Lab and Podcasts. Our world is so vast and there is much to learn. Which is why I love this place. https://learninglab.si.edu/#sll-create

Bonus: I heard this on Good Morning America the other day-what is something that has always interested you? Why not take an hour and learn 5 new things about it. It can be anything music, comics, history, famous people...anything.

How are you staying busy during this time? How are you doing? Feel free to drop a line!

(Note: None of these are paid/sponsored advertisements...just thoughts that I thought would be good and wanted to share for those that are looking for something to do.)

Thursday, March 19, 2020

Hi Everyone!

It's Spring Break and we are in trying to stay in to avoid any viruses...so that means lots of reading. Happy to share with you a few mini-reviews...

Red White and Royal Blue
You all voted for this one and it didn't disappoint! What a cute story, it was a quick read too. I enjoyed this one very much.

The Summer I Turned Pretty-Books 2 and 3
I needed some more Jenny Han in my life following TALBILB. It was interesting to see where this headed. I liked the series and I am curious where they go from here.

Such a Fun Age
Saw that some of you were posting about this one, so gave it a whirl. I enjoyed it as well!

Generally, some good reads here. Hope everyone is safe and healthy!

Happy Reading!

Waiting on Wednesday: Faith Taking Flight

Wednesday, March 11, 2020

Hi Everyone!

Stopping by to let you know about a book that I am excited about and will be releasing next month!

Author: Julie Murphy

Summary from Goodreads: From Julie Murphy, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Dumplin', comes the first in a two-book origin story of Faith, a groundbreaking, plus-sized superhero from the Valiant Entertainment comics.

Faith Herbert is a pretty regular teen. When she's not hanging out with her two best friends, Matt and Ches, she's volunteering at the local animal shelter or obsessing over the long-running teen drama The Grove.

So far, her senior year has been spent trying to sort out her feelings for her maybe-crush Johnny and making plans to stay close to Grandma Lou after graduation. Of course, there's also that small matter of recently discovering she can fly….

When the fictional world of The Grove crashes into Faith's reality as the show relocates to her town, she can't believe it when TV heroine Dakota Ash takes a romantic interest in her.

But her fandom-fueled daydreams aren't enough to distract Faith from the fact that first animals, then people, have begun to vanish from the town. Only Faith seems able to connect the dots to a new

Book Mail: Hello Summer!

Saturday, March 7, 2020

Just received this one in the mail and wanted to share with you about it! Thank you Macmillan for the happy mail! I will let you know how it is as soon as I read it.

Author: Mary Kay Andrews

Summary from Amazon:

New York Times bestselling author and Queen of the Beach Reads Mary Kay Andrews delivers her next blockbuster, Hello Summer.
It’s a new season...
Conley Hawkins left her family’s small town newspaper, The Silver Bay Beacon, in the rearview mirror years ago. Now a star reporter for a big-city paper, Conley is exactly where she wants to be and is about to take a fancy new position in Washington, D.C. Or so she thinks.
For small town scandals...
When the new job goes up in smoke, Conley finds herself right back where she started, working for her sister, who is trying to keep The Silver Bay Beacon afloat―and she doesn’t exactly have warm feelings for Conley. Soon she is given the unenviable task of overseeing the local gossip column, “Hello, Summer.”
And big-time secrets.
Then Conley witnesses an accident that ends in the death of a local congressman―a beloved war hero with a shady past. The more she digs into the story, the more dangerous it gets. As an old heartbreaker causes trouble and a new flame ignites, it soon looks like their sleepy beach town is the most scandalous hotspot of the summer.

Here are my five....
