Book Date: Gumption

Sunday, August 30, 2020

Hey Everyone!

It's Monday, so just stopping by with an update on What I am Currently Reading.

Author: Nick Offerman

Summary from Amazon:
The star of Parks and Recreation and author of the New York Times best seller Paddle Your Own Canoe returns with a second book that humorously highlights 21 figures from our nation's history, from her inception to present day - Nick's personal pantheon of "great Americans".

To millions of people, Nick Offerman is America. Both Nick and his character, Ron Swanson, are known for their humor and patriotism in equal measure.

After the great success of his autobiography Paddle Your Own Canoe, Offerman now focuses on the lives of those who inspired him. From George Washington to Willie Nelson, he describes 21 heroic figures and why they inspire in him such great meaning. He'll combine both serious history with light-hearted humor - comparing, say, George Washington's wooden teeth to his own experience as a woodworker. The subject matter will also allow Offerman to expound upon his favorite topics, which listeners love to hear - areas such as religion, politics, woodworking and handcrafting, agriculture, creativity, philosophy, fashion, and, of course, meat.

The Friday 56
Hosted by: Freda’s Voice
Description: Grab a book, any book. Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader. Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it) that grabs you. Post it. And share your link. It’s that simple.

Here is mine:
"Excepting those indiscretions or lapses in constitutional policy (whoopsie!), we are free to speak or print the truth and also to speak or utter bs, and it's up to the individual listener/reader to decide what he or she will swallow. "

Waiting on Wednesday: The Fargo Fire of 1893

Tuesday, August 25, 2020

Hi Everyone!

Stopping by to let you know about a book I am waiting on!

Author: Danielle Teigen

Summary from Goodreads:
In 1893, Fargo was simply trying to thrive amid an impending national depression. One Wednesday afternoon in June, a ferocious fire quickly devoured hundreds of businesses and more than thirty blocks in the heart of the fledgling city. Residents were stunned, but they weren't defeated. Through perseverance, grit and some helpful insurance money, owners immediately began rebuilding. The arduous reconstruction ended up protecting the city against unemployment and poverty. Author Danielle Teigen describes the efforts and individuals who helped rebuild a stronger, better city. More than a century later, that resilience and determination continues to be a hallmark of the Gateway to the West.

Bookish and not so Bookish Thoughts

Wednesday, August 12, 2020

Hi Everyone,

Stopping by with another Book and not so Bookish thoughts. Today I am sharing my thoughts on this phrase that has been circling in my head. The phrase is 'give me life.' I picked this up from the song Zen by X-ambassadors. The idea is that despite everything in the world right now the singer is looking for those things that give him life.

I have been thinking about that quite a bit and trying to figure out the things that give me life despite the pandemic, despite everything in the world:

1) Foods. I guess in a literal sense food gives me life. But more so, I have learned to really savor those things that I don't readily always have available. Especially are my loves for fresh fruits and veggies right now.

2) My kittens. I am truly grateful for these two each and every single day. I am so beyond lucky for the ability to do my job at home and get to spend this time with them.

3) Books. I am not able to travel and that has been incredibly hard on me. Books allow me to escape the world for just a bit.

What are the things bringing you life right now?

Reverse Readathon!

Thursday, August 6, 2020

Stopping by to let you know about an Event!

From the Dewey's Blog...

What is the Reverse Readathon? Last year, Andi and Heather decided to host a laid back readathon that would take place at the beginning of summer. The idea is to have a laid back readathon with fewer hourly posts, no prizes, and way less stress for everyone involved. It was also another opportunity to have readers all over the world join in and read together.

Aside from the more laid back approach, the Reverse Readathon starts 12 hours earlier than the regular readathon. So for those of you used to starting at 5 AM (like me) now we get to start on Friday at 5 PM! That will hopefully allow us to power through those rough night time hours early on when the enthusiasm is still high, and then be able to make it till the end.

So when will this Reverse Readathon be? We will be started Friday, August 7th at 8 PM EST and ending Saturday, August 8th at 8 PM EST.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Code for Love and Heartbreak

Tuesday, August 4, 2020

Hi Everyone!

Stopping by to let you know about a book that I think looks really cute and that I am waiting on!

Author: Jullian Cantor

Summary from Amazon:
In this contemporary romcom retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma by USA TODAY bestselling author Jillian Cantor, there’s nothing more complex—or unpredictable—than love.

When math genius Emma and her coding club co-president, George, are tasked with brainstorming a new project, The Code for Love is born.

George disapproves of Emma’s idea of creating a matchmaking app, accusing her of meddling in people’s lives. But all the happy new couples at school are proof that the app works. At least at first.

Emma’s code is flawless. So why is it that perfectly matched couples start breaking up, the wrong people keep falling for each other, and Emma’s own feelings defy any algorithm?
