Book Review: The Sun is Also A Star

Author: Nicola Yoon

In the latest book by Nicola Yoon, we met Daniel and Natasha. Daniel is Korean and has tried very hard to fullfill his parents expectations. Natasha is Jamaican, bases her life on facts, and is facing some tough times ahead with her family. When the two of them meet, it is a whirlwind 12 hours that takes place.

The first thing I appreciated about this book was the diverse characters. I have to say that we don't encounter that enough. I appreciated hearing about another culture and their experiences and what it was like to be them. I think that one of the biggest reasons I liked this book was because of the characters. The author does a good job of capturing who they are and sharing that with the reader.

The book plot was one that quick moving and was one that made you want to know what would happen next. I appreciated that the author provided an ending that was appropriate for the story and the epilogue that followed.

If you enjoy cute contemporary books or books about diverse individuals, you may have an interest in this one. I was able to participate in this book tour as part of the Around the World ARC Tours. Thanks for this opportunity.

Happy Reading!

Waiting on Wednesday: Hungry Heart

Wednesday, July 13, 2016

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. This week I am excited to feature a book that I just learned about because a few people were able to get copies at ALA. It looks really good and I can't wait!

Hungry Heart
Jennifer Weiner
Release Date: October 11th 2016

Details From Amazon:
You fall down. You get hurt. You get up again.

You know Jennifer Weiner as many things: a bestselling author, a Twitter phenomenon, and “an unlikely feminist enforcer” (The New Yorker). She’s also a mom, a daughter, and a sister; a former rower and current runner; a best friend and a reality TV junkie. Here, in her first foray into nonfiction, she takes the raw stuff of her personal life and spins it into a collection of essays on womanhood as uproariously funny and moving as the best of Tina Fey, Fran Lebowitz, and Nora Ephron.

Jennifer grew up as an outsider in her picturesque Connecticut hometown (“a Lane Bryant outtake in an Abercrombie & Fitch photo shoot”) and at her Ivy League college, but finally found her people in newsrooms in central Pennsylvania and Philadelphia and her voice as a novelist, activist, and New York Times columnist.

No subject is off-limits in this intimate and honest essay collection: sex, weight, envy, money, her mom’s late-in-life lesbianism, and her estranged father’s death. From lonely adolescence to modern childbirth to hearing her six-year-old daughter’s use of the f-word—fat—for the first time, Jennifer dives deep into the heart of female experience, with the wit and candor that have endeared her to readers all over the world.

By turns hilarious and deeply touching, Hungry Heart is about yearning and longing, love and loss, and a woman who searched for her place in the world—and found it as a storyteller.

 Hi Everyone!

I am excited to be here today to introduce you to another book by the talented T.A. Williams!

First a quick blurb from me:
This is another cute book from T.A. Williams! I enjoyed this one was much as What Happens in the Alps. In this book we meet Natalie and go with her to France. When she determines that she just needs to be away from everything, she goes to stay with her grandmother. While in France, a series of things start to happen. She becomes a research assistant, meets some new people, and maybe even a little romance. #nospoilers I enjoyed this book and the plot line. I enjoy the writers writing style and appreciated the opportunity to review this book.

Disclaimer: I was awarded this book as part of the Book Tour. Though I did not pay for the book, the opinions are strictly my own.

Author Biography
Firstly, my name isn't T A. It's Trevor. I write under the androgynous name T A Williams because 65% of books are read by women. In my first book, "Dirty Minds" one of the (female) characters suggests the imbalance is due to the fact that men spend too much time getting drunk and watching football. I couldn't possibly comment. Ask my wife...
I've written all sorts: thrillers, historical novels, short stories and now I'm enjoying myself hugely writing humour and romance. Romantic comedies are what we all need from time to time. Life isn’t always very fair. It isn’t always a lot of fun, but when it is, we need to embrace it. If my books can put a smile on your face and maybe give your heartstrings a tug, then I know I’ve done my job.
I‘ve lived all over Europe, but now I live in a little village in sleepy Devon, tucked away in south west England. I love the place. That’s why you’ll find leafy lanes and thatched cottages in most of my books. Oh, yes, and a black Labrador.
I've been writing since I was 14 and that is half a century ago. However, underneath this bald, wrinkly exterior, there beats the heart of a youngster. My wife is convinced I will never grow up. I hope she's right.
