Hi All,

Stopping by to let you know about a book I am waiting on.

Author: Abigail Johnson

Summary from Goodreads:
Perfect for fans of Jennifer Niven, Abigail Johnson draws a searing and lyrical portrait of grief, forgiveness, and the kind of love that blooms in the aftermath.

Eight years ago,Ethan and Rebecca met, two trouble-making kids sharing secrets and first kisses in a treehouse, until Ethan’s mom returned to take him away. Each and every visit, his only goodbye was a flower on Rebecca’s windowsill.

Three years ago , Ethan left for the last time to take care of his mother, who’s had a substance use disorder his whole life.

Two years ago, Rebecca was in a car accident that killed her father. She’s been learning to navigate life as a wheelchair user ever since.

Now, they discover if their hardships have torn them apart…or will bring them closer than ever.

Waiting on Wednesday: Not that Fancy

Tuesday, May 23, 2023

Hi All,

Stopping by to let you know about a book that I am waiting on.

Author: Reba McEntire

Summary from Goodreads:
The best things in life are really not that fancy. This photo-driven book featuring all-things-Reba invites you to get back to the basics of fun, food, friends, and family. In her first book in over two decades, actress and country music legend Reba McEntire takes you behind the scenes and shares the stories, recipes, and Oklahoma-style truths that guide her life.   FROM "To me, there's nothing better than sitting on the back porch looking out at the land that goes on for miles. A beautiful sunset and then me, just sipping on a glass of iced tea (or whiskey and Sprite) with my friends and family. I don't know what heaven's going to look like, but I hope it feels like Oklahoma. Throw in some beans and cornbread, and I'm all set. "Okies know that the secret to a good life is to keep things simple and be thankful for what the good Lord's given you. That's what I want to get back to. Simple fun, hard work, good food, and laughing with those you love. Everything I'm doing in my life from here on out—personal or professional, doesn't matter—I'm going to have fun. "That’s what I'm sharing in this book—some simple, not-that-fancy truths I live by and a bunch of good stories, photos, and recipes that go along with them. So if you're looking to slow down, get back to basics, and have a heckuva lot of fun, I think we're going to have a good time together in these pages. Come on in, kick off your boots (or leave them on, I don’t care), and learn how to bring a little bit of my downhome-inspired life into your own."   FROM THE Not That Fancy    Not That Fancy  is the perfect deluxe gift for Christmas, birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and special occasions. This keepsake book is ideal for Reba fans, country music lovers, or anyone who enjoys an easygoing Western lifestyle.

TTT: Things Getting in the Way of Reading (what’s taking up your time right now?)

Monday, May 15, 2023

Hi All,

Happy Tuesday! It has been awhile since I have done a Top Ten Tuesday post. This week's theme is:
Things Getting in the Way of Reading (what’s taking up your time right now?)

To respond:

1) Work. It can be all-consuming.
2) TV and Movies. This is a not a bad thing :)
3) Social Media. I enjoyed the break and lots of cat pictures/videos.
4) Podcasts. Who can resist?
5) Daydreaming. I spend a lot of time with my head in the clouds.
6-10) I am sure lots of random things here and there.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Burnout

Tuesday, May 9, 2023

Hi All,

Stopping by to share a book that I am waiting on.

Author: Sophie Kinsella

Summary from Amazon:
Sparks fly in this delightful novel about two burned out professionals who meet at a ramshackle resort on the British seaside—from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Party Crasher.

Sasha has had it. She cannot bring herself to respond to another inane, “urgent” (but obviously not at all urgent) email or participate in the corporate employee joyfulness program. She hasn’t seen her friends in months. Sex? Seems like a lot of effort. Even cooking dinner takes far too much planning. Sasha has hit a wall.

Armed with good intentions to drink kale smoothies, try yoga, and find peace, she heads to the seaside resort she loved as a child. But it’s the off season, the hotel is in a dilapidated shambles, and she has to share the beach with the only other occupant: a grumpy guy named Finn, who seems as stressed as Sasha. How can she commune with nature when he’s sitting on her favorite rock, watching her? Nor can they agree on how best to alleviate their burnout (Sasha: manifesting, wild swimming; Finn: drinking whisky, getting pizza delivered to the beach).

When curious messages, seemingly addressed to Sasha and Finn, begin to appear on the beach, the two are forced to talk—about everything. How did they get so burned out? Can either of them remember something they used to love? (Answer: surfing!) And the question they try and fail to ignore: what does the energy between them—flaring even in the face of their bone-deep exhaustion—signify?

Bout of Books

Sunday, May 7, 2023

It's Bout of Books Week! Information about the event from their website:

  • "Bout of Books is a week long readathon, run from midnight Monday through midnight Sunday in whatever time zone you are in. (Time zones are tough to coordinate, yo.)
  • It’s low pressure, meaning you’re only asked to read. We discourage competition between readers.
  • How much time you want, and can commit, to read, Tweet, Instagram, or otherwise network with fellow readathoners is left up to you. Any challenges and giveaways we host are optional.
  • Networking with fellow readers is actively encouraged, though never required.
  • Use social media to post updates throughout the readathon. Our main presence is on Twitter, where we share information about the readathon throughout the week. We also maintain an active presence on Instagram. We use the #boutofbooks hashtag on both networks."
