Hi Everyone,
I am back with another Woozy Wednesday. This time with Book #2, The Marvelous Land of Oz. What an adventure!
Author: L. Frank Baum
Summary from Amazon:
Few fantasy lands have captured our hearts and imaginations as has the marvelous land of Oz. For generations, children and adults alike have reveled in the magical adventures of its beloved folk.
Now, for the first time in over seventy years, the second book about Oz is presented here in the same deluxe format as the rare first edition, complete with all 16 of the original John R. Neill color plates, its colorful pictorial binding, and the many black-and-white illustrations that bring it to joyous life.
First issued in 1904, L. Frank Baum's The Marvelous Land of Oz is the story of the wonderful adventures of the young boy named Tip as he travels throughout the many lands of Oz. Here he meets with our old friends the Scarecrow and Tin Woodman, as well as some new friends like Jack Pumpkinhead, the Wooden Sawhorse, the Highly Magnified Woggle-Bug, and the amazing Gump. How they thwart the wicked plans of the evil witch Mombi and overcome the rebellion of General Jinjur and her army of young women is a tale as exciting and endearing today as it was when first published over eighty years ago.
Afterword by Peter Glassman. A facsimile of the rare first edition, complete with all 16 original color plates, a colorful pictorial binding, and over 125 of Neill's drawings. A Books of Wonder(R) Classic.
Personal Review:
This was fun to read and I enjoyed meeting Tip and his new pumpkin friend. It was interesting to see the scarecrow and tin man in their new roles and how the story progresses. An interesting read indeed!

Happy Book Date Monday!
Stopping by to let you know about a book I am reading!
Summary from Goodreads:
A nostalgia-packed, star-studded anthology featuring contributors such as Kristen Arnett, Yumi Sakugawa, Gabrielle Moss, and others exploring the lasting impact of the beloved Baby-Sitters Club series.
In 1986, the first-ever meeting of the Baby-Sitters Club was called to order in a messy bedroom strewn with Ring-Dings, scrunchies, and a landline phone. Kristy, Claudia, Stacey, and Mary Anne launched the club that birthed an entire generation of loyal readers. The Baby-Sitters Club series featured a diverse, complex cast of characters and touched on an impressive range of issues that were underrepresented at the time: divorce, adoption, childhood illness, class division, and racism, to name a few.
In We Are the Baby-sitters Club, writers and a few visual artists from Generation BSC will reflect on the enduring legacy of Ann M. Martin's beloved series, thirty-five years later—celebrating the BSC's profound cultural influence. Contributors include author Gabrielle Moss, illustrator Siobhán Gallagher, and filmmaker Sue Ding, as well as New York Times bestselling author Kristen Arnett, Lambda Award–finalist Myriam Gurba, Black Girl Nerds founder Jamie Broadnax, and Paris Review contributor Frankie Thomas. The first anthology of its kind from editors Marisa Crawford and Megan Milks, We Are the Baby-Sitters Club will look closely at how Ann M. Martin's series shaped our ideas about gender politics, friendship, fashion and beyond—and what makes the series still a core part of many readers' identities so many years later.

Welcome to Book Date Monday!
Author: Dr. Curtis Odom
Summary from Amazon:
I do not profess to know everything. I know a lot about a few things, which makes me open to learning something I have never heard of before. That, to me, makes learning fun! When I am in my professor role on campus, I bring my 20-plus years of knowledge, skills, ability, and experiences to teach content by placing it into a real-life context. What makes the writing of this book so beautifully ironic to me is you will be reading the career learnings and lessons of someone who barely made it out of high school but who found their personal definition of success as a business owner and full-time faculty member at a top business school in Boston.
In the following pages, you will find over two decades of professional insights, lessons learned, and personal experiences as captured by a student in my class who gave me the greatest gift of my career: a transcript of me putting my entire career's worth of context into the content of academic lectures taught over a fall semester in a college classroom. This engaged student distilled the insights heard in what I said-as his professor-into simple statements that most impacted him. Clear proof that words matter.

Just stopping by to let you know about a book I am waiting on.
Author: Amor Towles
Summary from Goodreads:
The bestselling author of A Gentleman in Moscow and Rules of Civility and master of absorbing, sophisticated fiction returns with a stylish and propulsive novel set in 1950s America
In June, 1954, eighteen-year-old Emmett Watson is driven home to Nebraska by the warden of the work farm where he has just served a year for involuntary manslaughter. His mother long gone, his father recently deceased, and the family farm foreclosed upon by the bank, Emmett’s intention is to pick up his eight-year-old brother and head west where they can start their lives anew. But when the warden drives away, Emmett discovers that two friends from the work farm have hidden themselves in the trunk of the warden’s car. Together, they have hatched an altogether different plan for Emmett’s future.
Spanning just ten days and told from multiple points of view, Towles’s third novel will satisfy fans of his multi-layered literary styling while providing them an array of new and richly imagined settings, characters, and themes.

Hi Everyone and Welcome to the first "Woozy Wednesday!" Woozy's are creatures in the Wizard of OZ books, which I am reading this summer.
Author: L. Frank Baum
Summary from Amazon:
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is an American children's novel originally published in 1900. It is often reprinted under the title The Wizard of Oz which was also the title of the famous 1939 movie adaptation. The story chronicles the adventures of a young farm girl named Dorothy in the magical Land of Oz, after she and her pet dog Toto are swept away from their Kansas home by a tornado. The book is one of the best-known stories in American literature and has been widely translated. The author followed it up with thirteen additional Oz books.
Personal Review:
It is interesting to have read this book in conjunction with seeing the movie. There are similarities, but also differences. It is interesting to think about the books when they came out and the timeframe in which they were introduced.
No spoilers...but a few highlights that you never heard about:
*Silver Slippers
*The story behind the Tin Man
*Field Mice
I enjoyed it!
