#24in48 Wrap Up

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to stop by with a wrap up post for the #24in28 reading challenge that happened this last weekend. This readathon is always an intense one, but I am able to get alot of reading done and for that I am so grateful. I managed to read six books this weekend! Attached is a picture showing four of those books.

Here are some short summaries about them:

The Year We Turned Forty
This is the book about three women and their lives. When given the chance to go back in time and change things, they soon realize that everything maybe happened the way that it did for a reason. An interesting book with characters that had alot going on in their lives.

The Start of Me and You
I loved this book! This was really cute. When the main characters boyfriend dies in a drowing accident, it takes awhile for her to recover. This book is the story of her life following the accident and how she learns to live again. I really enjoyed the story and the premise. The author does a good job of adding modern day references as well and I really appreciate it.

Falling
This book was an emotional read. In this book, the main character has left her job at a bank and moved into a new location. When a romance starts with someone close to her, you can see the sparks and chemistry. Then Act III happens and you are left a mess. I dont want to say too much because that could spoil it, but if you are looking for a book to give you feels this is one for you.

Rise of the Rocket Girls
This is a book about the real life mathematicians, programmers, and other influential women on the Jet Propulsion Lab and NASA. I enjoyed the story about these women and how they were able to go boldly in the direction of their dreams. This book was educational and informative at the same time. I appreciated it very much!

#SBPT with Jessica from the Book Bratz

I am so excited to have been selected to be part of the tour in which I get to help promote other bloggers to you this summer on Sundays during the months of July and August! The Fault in Our Stars is a Beautiful Book about a girl with a terminal illness. What is a beautiful book with a moving story that you would recommend?

I'll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios. It's a really moving story about falling in love with someone that you think is the opposite of good for you, but in them, you see all the happiness in the world. It was one of my favorite reads of 2015.

Paper Towns is a romance story that also has some adventure. What adventure book would you recommend? 

Let's Get Lost by Adi Alsaid! Tons of adventure on an epic road trip. You get to meet a lot of awesome and quirky characters.

An Abundance of Katherines is about Colin and him coming to sense with his breakups. What is one break up or romance book you would recommend?

A good romance book (that's also a little sad, mind you) is Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between by Jennifer E. Smith. It's about two teenagers in love spending their last night together before leaving for college. It's pretty relevant in my life right about now.

Looking for Alaska is a powerful book about seeking greater understanding? What is a book that has helped you make sense of the world around you?

Looking for Alaska is my favorite book of all time. It's taught me so much about how there's more to the world than what meets the eye, and that it's good to want to be destined for greater things. Another book that helped me make sense of the world around me was The Fault in Our Stars. (Another John Green book, I know.) You learn a lot about love and death and moving on and picking yourself back up even when life knocks you down repeatedly. You can take a lot of life lessons from that story.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson is a book of two people with the same name. What are two books that you felt were similar and/or what two books do you think go well together? (Maybe a particular series?)

The Selection series and The Jewel series both are pretty similar, about royalty and competing for status. When I read each of them, I'm definitely reminded of the other.

3. Where did you hear about the readathon, if it is your first? N/A
4. What book are you most excited about reading this weekend?  I am not sure...I am just looking forward to reading alot! It is going to be miserably warm here and that seems like a perfect reason to stay inside and do some reading.
5. Tell us something about yourself.  My favorite color changes depending on my mood. More times than not it has been orange, but sometimes it is green or purple instead.

Reading Recap

Hi Everyone!

Just stopping by quickly with a summary of some of the books I have been reading lately.

Small Great Things
This book was eyeopening and moving at the same time. In the latest novel by Jodi Picoult, we are presented with the topic of racism. This book was deep, educational, and powerful all at the same time. I love how the author is able to weave together a story that keeps you wanting to keep reading until the very end. When you do and the unexpected occurs, I love it all the more. This book is high up there on the list of books that I have read this year. I will be recommending this to all of my friends. Thank you Random House for the opportunity to review this title.

Giant Days 2
In the follow up to the volumes, we continue getting to know the characters and the struggles that they encounter on a more regular basis. While the topics are not always straight forward as one might hope they are good ones to think about. The illustrations were nicely done. I liked the story and I was glad to see that this is continuing.

Lily and Dash’s Book of Dares
When Lily finds a notebook and meets a new secret friend, it soon takes her on a quest of a completing a set of dares. As her secret pal also does the dares she sets up for him, they start to get closer and closer. The book follows their story about how everything plays out. I don’t want to give out any spoilers about what happens, but I found this one to be a cute story. I liked the story line and the adventure that the characters went on. A good read.

The Left Us Everything
In this moving book, we are greeted with the concept that what happens to the memories that we have created after we are no longer here. This book is one that helps us to understand the importance of things we hold on to and how we can share those memories with others. I enjoyed the story and feel like going through someone else's life after they pass away is not an easy task. An honest book with alot of heart felt emotion.

The Secret Ways of Perfume
First of all let me say that I have been fortunate enough to visit perfumerie in France and it was wonderful. I had not planned on this, but it was added to a tour I did and I am so glad it was. I discovered some wonderfulness at that place! This book helped me to recall the experience that I had while visiting. I loved the story and how it brought our main character to places she could recall. It is amazing the power of smell that has on a person. I appreciated the setting, the characters, and this book very much.

River Keep
In this fantasy novel we are taking on a twisty adventure to help find a cure for Wull's father. This book was a very interesting read. I feel like it would be better played out in a video form because there is so much that you could do with it. I enjoyed the story and the plot, but would think it would come alive in that format. If you like books about magic this may be the book for you!

The World Without You
In this book, we are greeted by Bo who has the power to travel through time. The challenge is that this is only real to him. He meets his match in Sofia, but when she gets locked in the past, he has to find his way back to her. The book jumps back and forth from his perspective, to that of his family who tell the story of mental illness. This book is gut wrenching and interesting. I enjoyed it.
