Spring Cleaning Readathon

Friday, April 15, 2016

Spring Cleaning Readathon is for those books that are wayyyy in the back of your bookshelf. You bought them with the best of intentions for reading them right away and just never got around to it. It is being hosted by Books with Lucy.
- It will start on April 15th and end on April 17th at Midnight.
-You can focus on books from your bookshelf that have been there awhile or get books from the library that you've been putting off for a long time. The main focus is, of course, READING.
-For this readathon we will be using the hashtag #SpringCleanReads!!  You can post your TBR's on your Blog, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Just use the hashtag #SpringCleanReads.
I hope to be able to make some good progress this weekend. I haven't set any specific goals, but anytime I can get through a few more in TBR stack, it is a good thing!

I will provide updates here when I am done:

1.) Braving It
A father daughter story about their adventures in Alaska. This book was jam packed with exploration, information about nature, and the relationship between the two. I enjoyed reading about it and I found several instances to be hard situations, but yet they come out better as a result of the adventure. If you enjoy the outdoors this may be a good book for you.

2.) She Poured Out Her Heart
This is the story of two women, who meet and the unexpected outcome that happens as a result. This book gave you a chance to feel deeply about two characters and try to put yourself in their shoes. I felt the plot was a little bit back and forth, but the story and how it relates is similar to life. Sometimes things aren't always in neat little boxes. I enjoyed reading this book.

Happy Reading!

Book Review: What Happens in the Alps

Thursday, April 14, 2016

Hi Everyone!

I am excited to be participating in a new book tour this month with Karan Eleni, who is helping to get the word out about "What Happens in the Alps." This book is adorable and I really enjoyed reading it! If you are looking for a cute story in a beautiful snowy location, this is the one for you.

In this story, we are greeted with Annie who is in the process of opening a school. Through her connections and a series of events, we soon see her in a bit of a love triangle. You guys know I love animals, and this one has a dog, Leo that is quite the trouble maker.

This book has some lol moments and I appreciate that very much. It felt light, but it also was complex enough to not be able to predict the ending. I enjoyed the author's writing style, the balance of characters, and the plot very much.

I think the best part of this book for me was the setting. I loved that it took place in a beautiful country and  you can almost picture the places as  you read about them. It makes me want to get my ticket and go!

If you enjoy books by Sophie Kinsella or other similar type of 'chick lit' reads you will want to pick this up. More details about the author and book can be found at the post right below this one.

Happy Reading!

Author Biography TAWilliamsFirstly, my name isn't T A. It's Tre vor. I write under the androgynous name T A Williams because 65% of books are read by women. In my first book, "Dirty Minds" one of the (female) characters suggests the imbalance is due to the fact that men spend too much time getting drunk and watching football. I could n't possibly comment. Ask my wife... I've written all sorts: th rillers, historical novels, short stories and now I'm enjoying myself hugely writing humour and roma nce. Romantic comedies are what we all need from time to time. Life isn ’ t always very fair. It isn ’ t always a lot of fun, but when it is, we need to embrace it. If my books can put a smile on your f ace and maybe give your heartstrings a tug, then I know I ’ ve done my job. I ‘ ve lived all over Europe, but now I live in a littl e village in sleepy Devon, tucked away in south west England. I love t he place. That ’ s why you ’ ll find leafy lanes and thatched cottages in most of my books. Oh, ye s, and a black Labrador.   I've been writing since I was 14 and that is half a century ago. However, underneath this bald, wrinkly exterior, there beats the heart of a youngster. My wife is convinced I will never grow up. I hope she's right. Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Memoir-Esque Books That You Should Read

Tuesday, April 12, 2016

Hi Everyone!

Just stopping by with another Top Ten Tuesday!  This week's topic is Top Ten X Should Read (where you fill in the blank for X). In my case, I have decided to highlight Memoirs, because they are one of my favorite types of books. I cannot even express how much I love reading them! I think something about understanding another person's experiences is fascinating.

So go get these books-they are worth checking out!

Deals with alcoholism and family.

2) Three Little Words
A young woman's experience in Foster care.

Food, travel, romance. Sounds like a good book to me!

This one is about facing your fears!

Do More of What you Love.

Moving across the country is hard and so is making friends!

Cooking, humor, and lots of entertainment.

Hiking and outdoors! Yes, please.

How to cope with being with being in your mid 20's.

More food and overcome hard obstacles.

Have you read any of these? What did you think? What is your favorite memoir-esque recommendation for me?

Happy Reading!

Genrethon April 10-17

Sunday, April 10, 2016

Hi Everyone!

Just stopping by with a quick announcement to let you know that I am participating in the Genrethon!  I have never done this one before it does seem a little bit You Tube Focused. I wont be making videos, but I do plan to participate here. I love the idea of reading books in a variety of genres!

This event is being hosted by:
Squibbles Reads, Under the Radar Books, Vienna Waits Books, and Lauren & the Books!

The goal is to read:
1) At least 3 Books
2) At least 3 Genres

Here is the list of books I hope to read:
1) The Smell of Other People's Houses (YA)
I was first drawn to this book based on the cover. It is stunning. The story inside is one of four different people and how their lives are connected. In each person's telling of their lives, you learn about them and what it is that makes them who they are. I enjoyed the multiple perspectives of this book.

2)Who Cloned the President (Childrens)
This book is one I read based off a recommendation from my niece. She says she really loves these books and I needed a different genre for this readathon. I enjoyed the fact that the story was set in Washington DC. It was a cute story from a kids perspective about the White House and the president. I enjoyed it.

3)  Grandma Gatewood's Walk (Book about real life story)
This book was very inspiring! I loved it. In this book, the author recounts Grandma Gatewood's walk on the Appalachian Trail. Not only do we hear what was going on in the news, but we get a better understanding of her life and what it was that pushed her towards doing this walk. She was one tough lady and I loved it.

Are you participating? If so, what do you plan to read?

Happy Reading!

Mt. TBR Checkpoint #1

Thursday, April 7, 2016

Hi Everyone!

Just stopping by to participate in Checkpoint #1 for Mount TBR.

1. Tell us how many miles you've made it up your mountain (# of books read).  If you're really ambitious, you can do some intricate math and figure out how the number of books you've read correlates to actual miles up Pike's Peak, Mt. Ararat, etc. And feel free to tell us about any particularly exciting adventures you've had along the way.

I have read 9 or my pledged 24 books for this challenge.  Which means I am ahead of schedule, but I know that I still have lots to go!

2. Complete ONE (or more if you like) of the following:
 A. Post a picture of your favorite cover so far.

B. Who has been your favorite character so far? And tell us why, if you like.
Keefer, because he is a retired racing greyhound!

 C. Have any of the books you read surprised you--if so, in what way (not as good as anticipated? unexpected ending? Best thing you've read ever? Etc.)
Charm. It was different than I thought it would be. I expected a little more Marley and Me, not so much kids book when I ordered. Still good, just different.

 D. Title Scrabble: See if you can spell a word using the first letter of the first word in the titles of some/all of the books you have read so far. Feel free to consider "A," "An," or "The" as the first word or not as it helps you with your word hunt.

My word: Not sure I can use all nine, the best I got is GIG

Game of Thrones
I Can Barely Take Care of Myself
Ghostly Tales of VA State Parks

How's everyone's reading going so far?

Happy Reading!
