Author: Judy Blume

Summary from Goodreads:
This is the story of Miri, and the unlikely events that occur in her hometown, Elizabeth, New Jersey. The book reflects on a time when a few airplanes fell out of the sky and the aftermath that shakes the community. The stories interweave in a real way and the impact is felt throughout.

Personal Review:
I enjoyed this book. I loved Judy Blume books as a kid and I have been anticipating reading this one. When I learned that the events were based off real life (despite the story being fiction), I found it even more compelling.

Through everything that Miri and the characters go through, they have to learn that life goes on. This is easier said when done when dealing with tragedy. How do you put the pieces back together? The characters have a lot to learn and it sometimes it takes years to fully grasp how you feel about a situation. An interesting plot, in a traditional Judy Blume story.

I am not sure how I would have felt to be someone who experienced this at a time when the world was unsure about the rest of the world. This time period was riddled with bomb threats and communism was something that was a reality. It made the fears heightened and the alerts all the more extreme. Certainly not issues that could be taken lightly. In amongst these fears though, the author finds a way to discuss love, growing up, and dealing with hard issues.
